What is Yoga?

Yoga means "union" in Sanskrit. Yoga is an ancient science with numerous practical applications for our modern lives. Yoga is the process of making oneself whole.

All people can create a stable, calm framework from which to live their lives to the fullest by working with and understanding the body, controlling the breath, and quieting the mind. Quality of life is greatly enhanced by health, strength, and flexibility of body, mind, and spirit. Yoga is a pathway which assists in developing these qualities.

The Yoga practice taught at the Sheboygan Yoga Center consists of three practices:

~Asanas~
Yogic postures or poses that build strength, flexibility and create a sense of well-being and balance.

~Dhyana~
Meditation and relaxation which sharpen the intellect, aid in concentration, and steady the emotions.

~Pranayama~
Pranayama refers to yogic breathing techniques that calm the mind and bring life and vitality (prana) to the body.
